Comparing screen enclosure companies or pool cage installers? Plan the space inside before pricing the frame around it. Doors, supports, pool edges and occupied dining chairs belong in the same layout. An enclosure should support how you move through the backyard—not become an outline added after every other decision.
LANDOVA provides independent outdoor-living design and planning before you choose the companies that build it. We help connect the enclosure with the pool, patio and landscape. Begin with the free Outdoor Project Plan, or explore a paid design engagement. LANDOVA is not the enclosure installer or structural engineer.
Replacing a damaged screen may be a direct call to a qualified repair provider. Planning a new enclosure around a changing backyard is a different task. Our designer-or-contractor-first guide explains when to resolve the wider project before choosing individual trades.
What the enclosure specialist brings
An experienced enclosure contractor understands its product system, installation details and maintenance needs. Structural design, attachment, foundations and site-specific loading require the appropriate qualified professionals. Ask who takes responsibility for those decisions and what drawings or approvals the contractor needs before giving a firm scope.
CPSC Pool Safely guidance emphasizes barriers and self-closing, self-latching gates. Have the responsible professionals verify the complete pool-barrier arrangement. Do not assume that selecting an ordinary screen enclosure settles every safety requirement.
Where separate quotes can leave gaps
Consider this illustrative scenario: an enclosure is added to a nearly finished pool patio. An upright interrupts the living-room view, a door opens into a planting bed, and foundation work conflicts with a planned utility route. The enclosure contractor needs answers that belonged in the overall layout. Resolving them late may change quantities or disturb completed work.
Four connections to resolve before bidding
- Enclosure → pool Barrier strategy, usable deck space and service access. Who reviews the complete arrangement?
- Enclosure → patio Foundations, anchors and finished elevations. What must be resolved before paving?
- Enclosure → house Attachment, roof relationship and water management. Who details and warrants each connection?
- Enclosure → garden Door paths, planting and maintenance. Do the openings serve the actual routes?
Compare complete enclosure proposals
A pool package may include an enclosure allowance from another company. A separate enclosure proposal may offer more product detail but omit foundations or paving repairs. Ask what the package coordinator provides, what the specialist provides, and what you would still have to arrange. Neither contracting route is automatically better.
Give bidders the same proposed footprint and door arrangement, subject to professional review. Ask them to identify frame and screen specifications, engineering, foundations, attachment work, approvals, debris removal and restoration. Keep different screen options or frame configurations separate from the shared baseline.
The FTC recommends multiple written estimates and asking about major price differences. Our equal-scope comparison guide helps organize the responses. Mark unanswered items as “not stated,” rather than assuming they are included or free.
A preliminary allowance can help you explore the project, but it is not necessarily a complete installation price. Read what an early contractor quote can and cannot tell you before committing against an unfinished layout.
Questions to ask screen enclosure companies
- Which footprint, door arrangement and frame or screen selections define this price?
- What site information and engineering are needed before the design is finalized?
- How do doors and supports relate to the pool, furniture, views and maintenance routes?
- Who verifies the pool-barrier arrangement and handles required approvals?
- Who includes foundations, house connections and any disturbed paving or planting?
- Which parts of the system are covered by whose warranty, and how is future service arranged?
Start with LANDOVA, then choose the right team
LANDOVA can help position the enclosure within the broader backyard plan, review everyday routes and views, and identify questions for enclosure, pool and paving specialists. A future dining area, spa or changed access should be considered before the footprint becomes a construction commitment.
For paid services, confirm the layout, visualizations and project-definition work included in your LANDOVA proposal. Qualified professionals retain responsibility for technical design, approvals and installation. Planning support does not automatically include construction management.
The free Outdoor Project Plan organizes your priorities and questions. It is not a completed custom layout, engineered enclosure plan or construction quote. Use it to prepare for the design conversation.
