Looking for a fire pit installer or outdoor fireplace contractor? Plan the gathering space before choosing the feature. Think about where people will sit, how they will move around the patio and what surrounds the proposed location. The visible flame is only one part of the project.
LANDOVA provides independent outdoor-living design and planning before you choose the installation team. We help connect the gathering area with the patio, planting, structures and future improvements. Start with the free Outdoor Project Plan, or explore a paid design engagement. LANDOVA is not the fire-feature installer, gas contractor or electrician.
A defined equipment repair should go to the appropriate qualified professional. This guide addresses a new gathering space within a planned backyard project. Our designer-or-contractor-first guide explains when broader planning should come before hiring individual trades.
What the fire-feature specialist brings
The right specialist depends on the proposed product, fuel and installation. Equipment selection, masonry, foundations and utility connections can involve different responsibilities. Ask who verifies site suitability, manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements. A decorative surround or attractive design image does not establish that the technical arrangement is safe or complete.
The U.S. Fire Administration's outdoor-fire guidance emphasizes keeping fire pits away from combustible surroundings, supervising children and extinguishing or turning off the fire before leaving. Have qualified professionals evaluate the actual equipment and location. Do not assume a feature can sit beneath a pavilion because an inspiration image shows it there.
Where separate quotes can leave gaps
Consider this illustrative scenario: a fire bowl is selected after the patio and landscape are priced. Its fuel connection needs a route beneath finished paving, the chairs crowd the main walkway, and nearby planting raises questions about the location. The product seller, utility contractor and patio installer need a shared plan—not three unrelated descriptions of the work.
Four connections to resolve before bidding
- Fire → people Seating, routes and supervision. How will the household use the gathering area?
- Equipment → fuel Product, supply and controls. Who verifies and installs the complete system?
- Feature → surroundings Structures, planting and nearby materials. Who confirms the appropriate location and clearances?
- Installation → ownership Operation, care and service. Who explains what to do after installation?
Compare the installed scope, not just the feature price
A product-only price is different from an installed-system proposal. One contractor may include support, connections and restoration, while another prices only the visible feature. Buying equipment directly can leave compatibility, delivery and scheduling with you. A bundled proposal may charge for coordinating those activities. Ask what that coordination actually includes.
Give bidders the same proposed location, intended use and product selection or clearly stated allowance. Request a breakdown of equipment, support, fuel or electrical work, controls, approvals, testing, restoration and owner instruction. Identify assumptions that require professional confirmation before a firm commitment.
Keep different fuel types or products as separate alternatives rather than treating them as interchangeable bids. The FTC recommends multiple written estimates and asking about significant differences. Use the equal-scope comparison guide to separate inclusions, exclusions and unanswered questions.
Read what an early quote can and cannot tell you before treating an equipment allowance as the cost of the finished gathering space. LANDOVA does not promise a fixed savings percentage or automatically take over construction management.
Questions to ask fire pit and outdoor fireplace contractors
- Which product, fuel choice and proposed location define this price?
- Who verifies site suitability, manufacturer requirements and necessary approvals?
- How will seating, walking routes, nearby structures and planting be reviewed together?
- Who includes supply connections, support, controls and any disturbed paving or landscape?
- What testing and operating instructions are included before handoff?
- Which maintenance, warranty and service responsibilities belong to each provider?
Start with LANDOVA, then choose the right team
LANDOVA can help position the gathering area within the whole backyard and identify the questions qualified specialists must resolve. Start with the experience you want: occasional conversation after dinner, a place for a larger group or a feature seen from the house. Include children, pets, storage and the care you are willing to provide in the brief.
For a paid engagement, confirm the layout, visualizations and project-definition work included in your LANDOVA proposal. Technical equipment selection, utility work, approvals and construction remain with the appropriate professionals. Planning supports those conversations; it does not replace their site-specific review.
The free Outdoor Project Plan organizes your priorities and questions. It is not a completed custom layout, technical fire-feature specification or installation quote.
